Last week we took the road less travelled and walked along Cunswick Fell near Kendal.
Cunswick Fell This is a nice gentle walk with great views and isn’t over-crowded even in high Summer. From the limestone pavement of the car park to the fossils along the [...] Today at 2 pm they are going to be flying hawks here at Limefitt Park in Troutbeck You can see some of these beauties. and my favourite, thomas the American Kestrel Thomas Oh yes – and there’s free pony trekking for the kids [...] We’ve just heard that the Lake District Pony Trekking centre is going to reopen at the end of this month! This used to be a very popular local facility with our guests, but it closed temporarily last year. We are really glad that it is returning (and not only because of the lovely horses [...] One of the highlights of The Lakes for nature lovers is the annual return of the Bassenthwaite Ospreys. As well as going to see the nest, just North of Keswick, now you can now follow them on the internet! // Get the Lake District Osprey Project widget and many other great free widgets at [...] Fantastic news this morning that Dubbs Reservoir, between Ings and Troutbeck, on the fell side just above our Lake District pine lodges has been reborn as a haven for wildlife. Dubbs Reservoir – A New Conservation Area The reservoir used to be an important water source but had fallen into disuse in recent [...] It’s been a bit mixed weather-wise this week, and as I type this I am looking out at a mizzle of rain drifting across the Troutbeck valley. It’s still lovely though:-) We’ve had Troutbeck in cloud and we’ve had Troutbeck – Just 1 cloud Fortunately the weather was lovely on Bank Holiday [...] Last night we put some crunch nut shreddies out on the fell side for the badgers and sat down to wait. Sure enough after 10 minutes we were visited by 2 of our nocturnal friends. We were stood by the window and they came to within 2 feet of us, seemingly totally unfazed by [...] Dodging the April showers (Yes, I know it’s May, but that’s what the weather feels like just now) we headed out for a quick circuit of Troutbeck. By the beck we saw a sweep of wild garlic (ransoms) and the scent was overpowering. These are also called bear garlic, but we don’t [...] Last night we watched the badgers finishing of the remains of our pasta (very sophisticated badgers around these parts) This morning we watched the new occupants taking possession of the bird house outside our bedroom window at the fellside lodge. There seemed to be two pairs of tits interested – a pair of blue [...] This year Limefitt Park was awarded the David Bellamy Gold Award for the fifth year running. One of the great things about the park is the way in which large areas are set aside for wildlife, with the result that we’ve seen red squirrels, badgers, deer and the occasional sheep on the park.
