Together in Electric Dreams – Lake District Cycling The Easy Way

This week I tried out one of the new activities that have recently taken off in the Lake District – Electric Cycling.

Electric Bike at Limefitt Park

There are two types of electric bike available in the Lakes just now, the most obvious difference being the charging capacity. The ones with the lower [...]

The Windermere Air Festival

We were really lucky to be invited to join our friends Bob and Joanne on their boat to watch the Windermere Air Festival on Sunday from the lake. The weather was absolutely perfect and the displays were fantastic. We left it a bit late going down down to the Glebe so we had to [...]

A walk past England’s most romantic spot for a picnic

Yesterday we took advantage of the fantastic weather and walked up from the lodge to the front of Wansfell Pike. from there we sauntered through Skelghyll Wood marvelling at the swathes of bluebells as we went.

There were also carpets of wild garlic that filled the air with their [...]

EveryTrail – Walks around Troutbeck for your Iphone!

We’re quite excited to have found an app for the Iphone that makes great use of the built in GPS. It’s called EveryTrail.

We have added one of our local walks to it today! Here is a link to it.

A Round at Windermere Golf Club

So today South Lakeland Parks hosted an inter-park golf competition. Windermere golf club has to be one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country. The view of the Langdales even on a hazy and humid day like today is worth the green fee!

An expedition to the source of the Troutbeck

Ok , so it’s not exactly the White Nile, but an expedition to see where the beck begins its journey had been on my list of walks to to do for some time now. I set of on Thursday morning bright and early armed with a rucksack full of wet/cold weather clothes, map, compass [...]

A stroll up to Orrest Head above Windermere

I’ve had an outstanding task for a few months now since I told www.walkingworld.com that I’d add a circular walk up from Troutbeck up to Orrest Head. This is a lovely gentle walk up tothe top of one of the lowest fells in the Lakes. At only just over 750 feet it hardly qualifies [...]

Dubbs Reservoir near Limefitt Park is reborn as a wildlife haven

Fantastic news this morning that Dubbs Reservoir, between Ings and Troutbeck, on the fell side just above our Lake District pine lodges has been reborn as a haven for wildlife.

Dubbs Reservoir – A New Conservation Area

The reservoir used to be an important water source but had fallen into disuse in recent [...]

Celebrity

Driving home from the Lakes today and listening to coverage of the Windermere Taverners Celebrity Cricket Match on Lakeland Radio

Yackers is commentating and explaining that the celebrities are batting and that batsmen numbers  3 and 4 are at the crease but he’s not sure who they are. Wonderful

That says all that [...]

Wakeboarding on Windermere

On Sunday we took the kids down to The Low Wood watersports centre and had a couple of hours learning to wakeboard.

Joe, our instructor was great and very patient and we all got up out of the water.

It was a lot of fun but quite tiring.

Whilst £65 an hour sound [...]
