I’ve had an outstanding task for a few months now since I told www.walkingworld.com that I’d add a circular walk up from Troutbeck up to Orrest Head. This is a lovely gentle walk up tothe top of one of the lowest fells in the Lakes. At only just over 750 feet it hardly qualifies [...] It’s a bit fierce out there just now with sleet lashing the lodge. It’s amazing how the landscape changes. I love the shapes of the dry-stone walls marking out the characteristic lakeland sheep folds in the snow.
Troutbeck Valley in Snow [...] The Mortal Man has now lost its “The Mortal Man Experience” sign – the brainchild of the last owner who seemed to be intent on trying to fill it with vodka and champagne cocktail slurping yuppies. That didn’t work did it ? Now that it’s been turned back into a grand Lake District pub [...] After Suki had been up Wansfell and rolled in her favourite perfumes (sheep poo is a special favourite) I took her down to the beck near Jesus Church for a dip so she’d be a little less fragrant once we got back to the lodge. On my way back I took a couple of [...] We sometimes get asked where Limefitt Park is and what sort of setting it is in. Here are two photos taken from Troutbeck and from our recent walk up Wansfell Pike which will give you some idea of the beautiful setting it is in. Sunset over Troutbeck On Wednesday I took some time out from the day job and headed up to Troutbeck to kit out the new lodge that we are bringing on stream in October – Otter Lodge. Having created my own mini-ecological disaster with a heap of totally unnecessary packaging that Tesco should be truly ashamed by, I [...] So, after a two year stint, during which the old owners tried to turn this traditional old pub/hotel into a gastro guest house monstrosity, things have finally returned to the way they should be! Last night we went up to try out the pub again and I am really happy to say that things [...] A beautiful day, an unfit bloke and a lovely ride. I cycled up from Troutbeck up to Borrans and turned left up the road there. A bit further on I turned left on to the bridle path and continued all the way to Kentmere Hall. Kentmere is very pretty but has no pub so [...] |
