On yesterday’s walk we went through Troutbeck and took this picture of Jesus Church in the frost. Jesus Church Troutbeck – New Year 2009 Yes, it was quite cold A bit later on we saw Windermere, clearly frozen in the distance Windermere frozen on a Winter afternoon [...] New Year’s Eve was bitterly cold and when we woke up this morning the park was covered in hoar frost. Hoar Frost on a silver birch tree It was so cold that part of Trout Beck had started to freeze! What a day for a New Year walk! Today was one of those beautifully crisp Lake District days which are just made for walking. Freezing cold with the sun shining and snow on the fell tops. Applethwaite Fell from Limefitt Park We set off towards Troutbeck to find the village was in cloud. The view from the bench on Robin Lane was obscured and [...] Well Winter seems to be arriving – snow last weekend and now snow again today as I look out of the window. It’s hard to believe that this is the same view as the one in the post about beautiful November weather isn’t it? Snowing in Troutbeck [...] Well it’s not been too dry of late has it? The good thing about the Lakes though is that there’s always plenty to do even when it’s raining. Last weekend we had a fantastic time at Troutbeck Pool where they have an inflatables session on Saturday afternoons. Great fun for grown ups as well as kids. We then [...] But for us in the Lakes it was the sky and not our mood! The North had a great weekend for weather (although looking at the BBC weather bulletins you’d never have know as they seem fixated by the weather South of Birmingham!)
It has rained a bit of late and even the ducks have been taking refuge on the roofs! Still – it has been said that “There’s no such thing as bad weather in the Lake District – Just the wrong sort of clothing”.
Today we have had hail and rain and sun – a real mixture. When the sun came out a few minutes ago the roofs of the lodges all began to steam – it looked quite surreal.
